OUR RUGBY STARS

We had a great time listening to three of the Stags rugby players.  They came to visit us and we had the opportunity to meet Steve-o the Stag.  He's a cool dancer, he showed us some of his dance moves and we thought that he was very good at dancing. The Stags players made an awesome comment about how we were very good listeners and that the questions we asked had to "make them think".  We had some very good questions and they gave us very good answers.  Now we know a little more about these players.
THANKS FOR VISITING US!

OUR NEW IPADS

We use the IPads to help us with our learning.  The maths activities are great because they are relevant to what we are learning.  We are also using them to work on retelling stories, publishing our stories and telling stories.  There are so many things that we can do with them, there just isn't enough time in a day.  We are extremely lucky to have been given these and look forward to learning about heaps of other apps that help us with our learning.
Basic facts to 10 with Maia and Jadine

MOVE IMPROVE

Move Improve with Nacho
Nacho and Paul from Sport Southland came out to work with us every Tuesday.  They showed us how to move about safely and confidently.  We enjoyed learning how to walk up walls, balance and walk through hoops on beams, swing and kick using our timing and many more.  Check out our photos of what we learned during their time with us.

DISCO, DISCO, DISCO

We had a great time dancing the night away as Super Heroes do on their night off.  The sounds were provided by some cool DJ's and this was the night to hang out with our friends and groove on down.

A VISIT FROM OUR OWN OLYMPIANS

Eddie and Matt came to visit Room 3.  They arrived early and caught us all off guard.  We were very excited to see them and share our classroom.  Eddie even had a go on our interactive whiteboard and showed us some drawing skills.  Thanks Eddie and Matt for coming in to visit us.  We look forward to seeing the Gold medal when you come back.

CROSS COUNTRY

We had a fantastic day for our Cross Country at Waianiwa School.  The course was long, grassy, bumpy and a little bit mucky.  Many of our tamariki from our kura did well and got placings with our own Tequin coming second in his age group.  Tino pai rawe!!

Adelle coming on down to the finish line. Tequin's mum did a great job at being the guide and support runner.  Thank you Kim.
Great running Angus.

Jadine ran to the finish line with her dad. Go Jadine! Go Dad!

Kaycee, Anna, Jenna ran hard to the end.  Great running!

HAERE MAI, NAU MAI, HAERE MAI

Tena koutou katoa

Haere mai, nau mai, haere mai.
Welcome back to term 2 2012.  I have been counting down the days to get back to school and now it's finally here.  With much excitement, I am pleased to be back and look forward to learning and working with my class of tamariki.

While I have been away, I've had time to learn more waiata on my ukelele, so look out we will be singing lots of cool waiata.  I have also created some cool interactive whiteboard activities for you to use in your learning so you will be given many opportunities to become ICT experts.

I look forward to preparing our waiata for Putangitangi competitions and Polyfest and I am pleased to say that the Kapa Haka roopu/group is on it's way sounding wonderful with a couple of new waiata on our list already.

Oliver is looking forward to spending some quality time with his aunty and grandma while I'm back at school teaching - so look out Mary and Jack, you better put your toys away up high as Oliver is nearly walking.

Keep checking into our blog as I aim to update this on a weekly basis and I may add some homework activities for you to carry out in addition to making comments.  Use our blog to access maths and literacy activities and games, most of these will be linked to your current learning intentions.

Happy blogging

The Haka - Ka Mate

Please practice the kupu/words to the Haka - Ka mate.  If you need help with the actions, search for an All Blacks haka on You Tube.  There are a couple of really good ones that you will be able to follow.

FIREFIGHTERS TALK FIRE SAFETY

A large red firetruck pulled up outside our school and out climbed some people in blue uniforms, we became extremely excited about the visitors in dark.  Firefighters had come along to talk to us about their involvement in fighting fires and being firefighters.
We got to climb into the fire truck and the fire man talked to us about all of the different gadgets inside the truck.
Meanwhile in Room 3, Aroha and her work colleague were talking to a group of tamariki about their jobs and the special uniform that they had to wear when they fought a fire.
It was very cool!  Thanks Invercargill Fire Service.

STEEL NETBALL PLAYER READS TO ROOM 2,3 AND 4

We had a visit from Hailey Saunders last Thursday.  We were very fortunate to have her read a story to us about Grandpa.  When she had finished reading the story, we were allowed to ask her some questions.

Hailey asked us some questions about reading and we were able to respond with good answers like how important it is to use reading strategies like re-reading, reading on and checking the pictures.  We also mentioned "think alouds".
