We designed our own maps. Our criteria was that we needed to have roads, buildings and landmarks.
We then worked with a buddy to direct them to our mystery destination on our maps.  We have found it challenging because when we have to turn, we have to remember to say whether it;s a 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full turn.  Sometimes knowing my left  from my right is tricky too.

Star and the Bubbles

Written and recorded by Kaycee.

Kaycee wrote this story about a dog named Star.  He loves bubbles.  She had written the story and then rewrote her story changing some of her words for new interesting words.  Kaycee is working on writing her stories to make a picture in her readers head.
Did Kaycee help you see a picture in your head of Star jumping and catching bubbles?

POLYFEST 2012

Thursday 9th August was the day that we were to perform at Polyfest 2012.  This is a wonderful opportunity for children to perform and show what we have been learning and working so hard on.  Our waiata consisted of our new school chant - Ko Wai Tenei - This is Us, Haere mai, Ko toku marae tenei, Kua rongo mai, Pa mai, E.I.A.I.E and three haka from our tama.
Their performance was wonderful and I was extremely proud of them.  Mr Silcock and our parents were there to watch and tauoko us.  A very special thanks to our parents who helped with the transport and dressing the tamariki.  It's very busy and when we have 30 odd excited children milling around, it can be full on.  But the tamariki were well behaved and enjoyed their performance.
Thanks also to the tamariki for putting in the time and effort.  I know you enjoy your playtime but the practices that you put in made you better prepared on the day.

STATIC IMAGES

Here are some photos some of the children have taken.  They have been busy looking at things that interest them.  These photos will be brilliant to use as writing prompts for our writing.   Some of these photos will be judged and hopefully part of the selected photo's to go through to be judged as finalists for the ICT2LRN Media Awards.  As part of this project, the children will take what they have learned about photography and take photos of things that interest them.  The children who have taken these photos are able to talk about how they took their photo and what type of shots they were.  i.e. long shot, close up, zoom in, zoom out, the position of the sun or time of day, angle shots - did they take their photo from up high or down low.  Well done tamariki ma!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETHAN

Ethan had his birthday called out on the radio and guess what  He won!  Gretchen and Andy arrived with a chocolaty, creamy sponge cake.  Mmmmm, it was delicious. Ethan shared his yummy cake with Room 3 and Room 4 so we were very lucky.  Thanks for the sweet treat Ethan.
We used this shared experience to write an Acrostic poem about Chocolaty cake.  So keep looking for our collection of poems that will be published soon.

OUR RUGBY STARS

We had a great time listening to three of the Stags rugby players.  They came to visit us and we had the opportunity to meet Steve-o the Stag.  He's a cool dancer, he showed us some of his dance moves and we thought that he was very good at dancing. The Stags players made an awesome comment about how we were very good listeners and that the questions we asked had to "make them think".  We had some very good questions and they gave us very good answers.  Now we know a little more about these players.
THANKS FOR VISITING US!
